New Xamarin.Forms Articles

I have recently published two articles on Xamarin.Forms:

Using Native Platform Features in Xamarin.Forms Through DependencyService
Xamarin.Forms is platform-agnostic, and your single code base will work on all platforms. But if you want to perform platform-specific operations, you need to do some work, as Wei-Meng Lee shows.

Providing Location Service Using DependencyService in Xamarin.Forms
When your app needs to work with location information, the code that requests and then handles the user's latitude and longitude shouldn't be affected by the platform of that device. Wei-Meng Lee shows how to use Xamarin.Forms to take advantage of each platform's native features to provide location services.

To learn more about Xamarin.Forms, join us in the upcoming course on Xamarin.Forms Programming:

New Xamarin Courses!

Due to the popular demand of the Xamarin courses, I have decided to redesign the courses so that they can better fit the needs of developers:

1. MOB102 - 1-Day Writing iOS Apps using Xamarin and C# - S$799
Who should attend?
Developers who are primarily interested in leveraging their C# skill set to build iOS apps. Developers will learn how to encapsulate their business logic in separate DLLs and use them in their iOS apps. DLLs can also be reused in Android apps.

2. MOB103 - 1-Day Writing Android Apps using Xamarin and C# - S$799
Who should attend?
Developers who are primarily interested in leveraging their C# skill set to build Android apps. Developers will learn how to encapsulate their business logic in separate DLLs and use them in their Android apps. DLLs can also be reused in iOS apps.

3. MOB104 - 1-Day Writing Cross Platform iOS and Android Apps using Xamarin.Forms and C# - S$799
Who should attend?
Developers who want to write apps that target Android and iOS platforms. Using a common set of UI elements from Xamarin.Forms, developers will be able to write their apps and run them on iOS and Android devices.

Developers who are interested to develop cross platform mobile apps are strongly advised to take the three courses. Participants who register for the three courses can enjoy a discount course fee of S$2,000 for the three courses.

Article - Getting Started with Xamarin Forms

With the Xamarin.Forms API, a single user interface can work on three different platforms: iOS, Android, and Windows Phone - a huge savings in code writing! Wei-Meng Lee provides examples for working with Xamarin.Forms, showing the kinds of navigation your interfaces can use on the individual platforms.
While Xamarin is a dream come true for developers planning to build cross-platform apps for the iOS, Android, and Windows Phone platforms, maintaining different user interface code is still a pain for most developers. Although a significant part of the app logic can be written once and reused for multiple platforms, developers still have had to code separately for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.
Not anymore. In May 2014 Xamarin introduced the Xamarin.Forms API, which allows developers to build shared screens for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. Using the Xamarin.Forms API, you can create a single code base for your user interface, and Xamarin will automatically translate it into the native UI elements for each platform that you're targeting.
In this article, I'll help you get started with Xamarin.Forms by creating different pages using the various classes available in the API.
